How You Can Teach Yourself Violin

If you want to teach yourself violin you may have a lot of questions for yourself. Like “How long will it take me to learn the violin?”, “Is it really hard to learn violin?” or the worst one “Am I too old to learn violin?”. If you want to teach yourself violin it will take commitment, patience, dedication and confidence. You need all this because learning violin requires a lot of practice, if you don’t practice you’ll never get good.

You can’t let learning violin become a chore for yourself. This will be very discouraging. Everyone has a different learning curve and some people will learn faster than others, certain people just have that gift. But you can’t let that discourage you. The last thing you want to do is compare yourself to another person and their learning pace. The only way to judge yourself is to look at how much time you’ve put in. The more time you put in the better you will become.

A lot of the times it helps to give yourself goals, whether their short term or long term, or maybe even for the day. Maybe your long term goal is to become a concert violinist and to play a concert on day. A short term goal may be to learn a song in a week or two. An example of a daily goal is to tell yourself you’re going to practice for 3 hours today. You must utilize these types of goals or your mission will become aimless.

If you’ve decided you want to teach yourself violin you definitely need to be organized with your goals. But teaching yourself can be a good thing because you can save yourself money and you can learn on your terms when you have free time. It can be tough to adjust your schedule around going to a lesson. There are plenty of options available for you to start teaching yourself.

Online and at books stores there are a lot of instructional books and DVDs you can check out. These are often a good place to start with. You can also teach yourself violin online, which is a route lots of people are going these days in learning instruments. The convenience is that you can just sit down in front of your computer and start learning. It may be a good idea to search out some good violin forums. These are great communities that attract violin players at all levels that are there to help you or just talk about things related to the violin.
