What Song is sung when the collection plate is passed?
The first thing I ever learned to sing was in a Protestant church (it was Wesleyan) when the collection plate was passed. I went to church till I was 14, but I never learned the real words to it. I learned starting at 2, so only some are actual words, like “grace…fathers…”. Does anyone know what song this actually is and its lyrics?
I don’t think I have your answer based on the two words that you give for the text, but as a former organist and former christian in most of the churches that I either belonged to or played the organ for it was usual to play a setting of the Doxology AFTER the collection was taken; any piece of music of an appropriate length and character was played while offering was taken. The Doxology:
Praise God, from Whom all blessings flow;
Praise Him, all creatures here below;
Praise Him above, ye Heavenly Host;
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.
This is usually sung to the tune called the “Old 100th”; there are two midi files at the bottom of the page to help you decide if this is the tune you’re thinking of.
